The Greenhouse Effect

is real - in greenhouses.

I'm either getting ready for the zombie apocalypse, or getting ready for massive food price inflation, or growing a victory garden in case of world war.

Anyway, the dog pen is not used much for dogs anymore and Nancy wanted to try and preserve some of her perennial pots for next year.

So we put up this kit greenhouse.  The plastic covering can be slipped off in the summer. Yesterday I measured a 40 degree difference between the inside and the outside.

  1. Gene,

I'm not too familar with your climate, but if you get the pots up off the ground in the spring, more heat will get into the soil in the pot, allowing earlier starts. The darker gound inside will also collect more heat. If you want to temper the heat of the day and the cool of the night, store a couple black plastic trash cans inside and fill them with water. They will act as a heat sink.
