The rule, not the exception.

James Madison
If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.

As I wrote in the preceding post, politicians getting arrested is nothing new.  Nevertheless I was disappointed.  But, it is a good reminder of why I am basically libertarian.

Less government is better. Why?  Because Government is a fiction.  There is no government, no Department of ThisandThat, no Division of ThatandThis, no Council, no Board and no Son of Heaven.

There are only men. Men who are greedy, selfish, power hungry, venial, egocentric sinners. Aren't we all?

Electing or appointing a man to a government office does not confer sainthood and wisdom. He is still the same flawed character we all are. Only now he can make decisions for you, that affect your life. He has power over you.

People who have faith in government, who think government is the answer should think again.  The more you do for yourself and the less you rely on government the better your life will be.

Reynolds’ Second Law: “The more a government wants to run its citizens’ lives, the worse job it will do at the most basic tasks of government.”

Good point. If accusations are true, domestic violence is indicative of weak character in our new city councilman.
We have seen other behaviors in our past council members, that are alarming. Such as the one who thought he was above the law, or the ones who used the authority of their position to get personal benefits. These did not bother to change their behavior, maybe Brainard will take corrective action. If he doesn't, he will find himself spending a lot of time in jail.
