For the last several years we have planted squash in the front yard. Mixed in with the decorative plants it provides some interesting foliage and some good eats. This year we have one yellow zucchini and two hard shelled hybrids from squash harvested last year.
In both the backyard and in the greenhouse we have pots with useful plants like parsley, basil and tomato.
Sounds like a salad. Mozzarella cheese, tomato, fresh basil and parsley, baby squash, and a squash flower all sprinkled with extra virgin olive oil.
Finally, a before and now picture of the experimental 3 sisters plot.
Corn planted in groups of 4 or 5 surrounded by pole beans. The beans climb up and are supported by the corn stalks. Squash is in the gaps and acts a ground cover to keep away weeds.
